Pranayama: Progressive Training in Vitality
December 10 @ 7:00 am - 8:00 am
An event every week that begins at 7:00am on Tuesday and Thursday, repeating indefinitely
In Light on Yoga, B.K.S. Iyengar expounded the ancient teaching of “conquest of matter.” Writing the Preface to Light on Pranayama twenty years later, he further taught: “Only recently have western savants become aware of the techniques developed in ancient India for examining the systems of breathing, blood-circulation, digestion, assimilation, nourishment, the endocrine glands, and the nerves, the subtle forms of which are collectively known as the Conquest of Life Force (pranamaya kosa).” Evoking Hanuman, Lord of Breath, the body of this text elegantly illuminates steps to study the universal energy through one’s own vital breath. In this series, practitioners will learn the Light on Pranayama teachings by doing, systematically from the preliminaries onward, building capacity, skill, and equanimity step by step. Modifications will be given to meet participants’ needs.
Prerequisite: Six months’ asana practice with a CIYT.
