Meditation Posture Fridays: Yoga Practices for Sitters
November 11, 2016 @ 4:00 pm - 5:15 pm
In the early 1980s, Shosan asked a Zen master, “I have been sitting for over 10 years, and my feet still fall asleep in zazen (seated meditation). What am I doing wrong?” He replied, “The first 10 years are the hardest.”
The posture we take affects everything about meditation from its ease or difficulty to the thinking process; there are infinite ways to study it. This nine-session series is offered to provide a guided apprenticeship in the yoga of meditation.
Once a month, we will gather on Friday afternoon for an asana class that addresses a specific postural, physiological, or mental aspect of meditation practice. After a Q&A session, everyone is invited to sit a period of zazen meditation.
Participants should bring an empty stomach, curiosity, and wear loose, comfortable dark-colored clothes. Students of all ages and physical abilities are welcome.
Fee: Suggested minimum donation $15 per session, to be made at each class session. Please give generously to support San Francisco Zen Center’s programs.
